Derby Schools v Bassetlaw Schools: Saturday 21st November

Derby  Schools  2   v   Bassetlaw Schools 2

The derby team once more impressed with their determination an levels of footballing skills.  Some of the passing movements made would have graced many a football league side.  A solid defence   of Thomas Preston Simon McIntyre, William Isbern and Thomas Stone thwarted the Bassetlaw strikers and it was a debateable penalty which saw Derby go 1-0 down.  As ever the midfield of  George Ward, Zak Brown, Aiden McAdam and a buzzing Zaakir Asfar led the challenge and bounced straight back with a goal from this seasons top striker Jacob Jepson who received a pass from Thomas Stone and hit the ball under the Bassetlaw keeper (1-1)

In the second half Bassetlaw continued with high balls played onto the Derby back 4 and relied on the speed of their attackers.  Isbern had his hands full with the Bassetlaw right winger but stood his ground and dealt with the play.  George Ward ran himself into the ground working tirelessly to stop attacks and restart Derby attacks.  Bassetlaw scored a second when a ball into the Derby penalty area was placed under Derby keeper Hillier.(1-2) Derby again bounced back with a move down the right by Zaakir Asfar and Aiden McAdam culminated in a run into the box by Jepson who slotted the ball into the far side of the net past the diving Bassetlaw keeper. (2-2)

Derby remain unbeaten now in 4 games.

Leeds Schools  v Derby Schools: Saturday 15th November

Leeds Schools  1    v   Derby  Schools  1

After a very long journey (due to a motorway closure) Derby arrived at Leeds for a late kick off.  The length of journey had not phased the Derby side and they immediately began an attack on the Leeds goal.  Zaakir Afsar passed to Morgan Hambling whose shot was collected by the Leeds goalkeeper.  His kick out was met by Jacob Jepson with a shot but no goal came from this. Leeds were pinned in their own half for the first 15 mins of the game but towards half time Leeds found their form and began to press into the Derby half and claimed 2 corners.

The second half began with Derby on the back foot. Leeds hit the post and missed an open goal but it was a throw out from the Derby goalkeeper which went to a Leeds attacker who shot low from the edge of the box under the Derby keeper.(1-0 to Leeds)

Derby battled back straight away and a cross from Thomas Preston to Ronnie Scaife fell to Jepson who headed on to George ward whose shot hit the crossbar and Scaife ran in to equalise for Derby.

Again McAdam and Brown commanded in the middle of the field and Zak Brown was involved when his pass to Jepson resulted in the Leeds keeper having to make a save.  Jepson feinted to kick the ball but brought it down and ran past a Leeds defender and shot to the right.

Both teams were complimented by the referee on their standard of football and the sporting way they played. The first foul coming after 22mins and 20 seconds.  The referee said this was a record both teams could be proud of.  Well done Derby it has been too many years since a draw or win was earned against Leeds.

Derby Schools  5    v   Gloucester  Schools  0

Derby started this game brightly and Gloucester were under pressure right from the beginning.  The derby defence, when troubled were confident and commanding.   New boy William Isburn fitted in well at left back and prompted some strong attacks down the left flank through George Ward.  On the right Zaakir Asfar took on the Gloucester left back and put their defence under many attacks.  The derby first goal came from a corner and found Jacob Jepson on the front post to head in.(1-0) Derby knew what to do and their second came from another corner by Aiden McAdam.  The ball was flicked on by Jepson and Zak Brown headed in on the back post.(2-0)  Half time saw a Derby side grown in confidence and raring for the second half.

More pressure from Derby put Gloucester on the back foot and Jepson got his second and Derby’s third with a volley from another McAdam corner.(3-0).  Derby scored again from another  corner when Jacob Jepson headed into the net again.(4-0)  Derby’s last goal came from Aiden Mcadam who scored from wide right from another corner.

Derby made a record here today –five goals all coming from corners.  Their next game against Leeds will be a big challenge but the boys are ready for it.

Derby Schools v Barnsley Schools : Saturday 17th October

Derby Schools  3    v   Barnsley Schools  1

A lovely sunny Autumn morning at King GeorgeV playing fields was the perfect setting for a game of schoolboy football.  This mornings opponents were a team from Barnsley who had already beaten Leeds boys.

Derby began the game kicking uphill against the sun but were not to be outshone nor overawed by a strong Barnsley side.  Attacks from Midfield commanded by Aiden McAdam soon had Barnsley falling back towards their penalty area.  On the right Zaakir Afsar had the beating of the Barnsley left back and as his confidence grew so did the Derby attacks.  Near misses from Morgan Hambling and Jacob Jepson were beaten back by a desperate Barnsley defence.  Late in the first half Barnsley scored when a ball into the Derby box was cleared only to find a Barnsley midfielder on the edge of the box who sent a hard shot skimming through a crowd of players to beat an unsighted Derby keeper.

down the Derby boys lost no time opening the second half with concerted attacks down right and left

flanks.  Full back Alex Walker playing skilful one twos with George Ward and Zak Brown to prize

open the spaces.  Derby were on top and not going to let Barnsley savour their goal lead for too long.

Within the first 5 minutes Captain Aiden Mcadam had equalised from a pass by Alex Walker. (1-1)

Derby weren’t to be stopped and their second came from a corner hit high into the Barnsley penalty

area where the ball was flicked on by Zak Brown and defender Thomas Preston ran in to head the ball

into the back of the net.  (2-1) Barnsley rallied and tried to attack the Derby goal but good defensive

work by Simon McIntyre and Thomas Preston (who was outstanding at the back) prevented any

Barnsley comeback.  The icing on the cake came when Simon McIntyre set up Derby’s third goal

scored by Jacob Jepson.(3-1)

This was a well deserved win for the Derby lads and showed promise for the rest of the season.

Derby Schools v Telford Schools : Saturday 3rd October

Derby Schools  0    v   Telford Schools  1

The game began with a derby attack putting pressure on the Telford goal against a very strong wind and a good Telford defence.  The game then swung in favour of Telford with many attacks on the Derby goal from both left and right.Derby centre backs McAdam and Preston solidly clearing their lines from corners time and again.  Derby began another attack from a long throw by Mcadam but Telford quickly countered and with the help of a swirling wind beat keeper Hillier.  Centre midfield Zak Brown had an outstanding game as did George Ward.  The first half became a game of clearing the Derby box and beating corners out. Telford came close to scoring a second when a corner from the right whizzed across the goal line and a Telford player running in slid in but failed to connect.  The first half ended with another Derby attack from a good corner from the left taken by Mcadam finding the head of Ward at the back post but the ball was cleared off the line.

The second half began again with Derby playing with the wind and attacking the Telford end. Derby coming close to equalising when the ball was crossed in but tho 4 Derby players hit at goal a Telford defence managed to clear it out .  This game of ping pong ended when Storr hit the ball over the Telford net not into it!

The game ended with Derby losing 1-0 but showing they had plenty to offer for the rest of the season .  For a first game; with boys getting used to playing 11 a side and; against a team who had played 4 already Derby showed promise.  They have come away with some pointers to work on but are already looking forward to the next game against Bassetlaw.
