A bridge too far for Derby as Bridgewater closed ranks.

 

Early pressure from Bridgewater in the opening 10 minutes saw a couple of half chances but nothing really threatening goal. On 11 minutes the Bridgewater keeper makes a great save as the Derby striker Kyle Nicholson strikes a great shot. On 15 minutes Derby have a half chance as Kyle takes a quick throw in to captain Adam Nugent who shoots the ball across the goal line.

 

After 20 minutes more Derby pressure as striker Brad Ellis heads just over the bar.

 

On 32 minutes a long ball up from Bridgewater finds their striker on the right hand side of the box, he strikes the ball sweet into the top left corner.

 

Half time.

 

From the restart of the 2nd half Derby attack but are stopped by the solid defence of Bridgewater,

quickly Bridgewater counter attack and 3 passes later bridgewater striker hits the ball into the bottom left corner for a 2-0 lead.

 

Derby pick themselves up and try to get back in the game and on 17 minutes win a corner, a great delivery in from Luke Gratton sees the prolific Kyle Nicholson connect foot to ball to score and get Derby back in the game.

 

On 25 minutes Derby win a free kick, a deep ball in from Steven Kosmala sees the ball cleared but Amin Murad delivers it right back on for Brad Ellis to hit the back of the net but ruled out for offside.

 

On 28 minutes Bridgewater have a throw on on the left, one pass across the derby box to the centre and a shot from Bridgewater hits the underneath of the bar and over the line.

Bridgewater have a further 2 chances with 1 shot just wide and a header parried away by Derby keeper.

 

Derby have 1 more chance on goal with a shot over the bar from Brad Ellis.

 

Derby struggled to keep possession sand get any momentum going but come up against a solid Bridgewater defence.

 

 

Wednesday 7th April East Cornwall v Derby

Within 5 minutes Derby open the scoring, a freekick taken from in their own half up to Kyle Nicholson on the right hand side of the 18 yard box, Kyle contolled the ball and strikes it hard and high into the top left corner.

 

On 13 minutes Derby give away a free kick on edge of their box, the free kick is struck high and hard and is heading for the top right corner, but the Derby keeper Ben Whitehouse rises well to tip the ball over the bar fir a corner. From the corner Derby only half clear and East Cornwall capitalise and strike the ball into the net for a deserved equaliser.

 

Derby respond within 3 minutes and regain the lead, a great through ball from Brad Ellis to strike partner Kyle Nicholson to chase, the East Cornwall keeper collided with his own defender leaving the ball free for Kyle to slot into the empty net.

 

In the second half East Cornwall dominated the possession for the first 20 minutes but only creating 1 chance on goal, the Derby keeper made himself big and instinctively saves as the shot hits his head and is cleared to safety. The remainder of the 2nd half Derby dominated and on 20 minutes a long throw from Kyle Nicholson reached the near post, East Cornwall keeper called and went up for the ball but Derby striker Brad Ellis beat him to it and headed home at the near post to make it 3-1 to Derby.

 

George Harrison spurred into life in the 2nd half winning every headed challenge and playing some nice through passes for his strikers, even having a couple of shots on goal himself forcing saves from the East Cornwall keeper.

 

Kane Jordan was solid in defence, strong in the challenge preventing shots on goal.

Jacob Bullock was strong in midfield making tackle after tackle to win back possession for Derby.

 

A good start to the festival for Derby.
